Trapped! dev update 1

This weekend I worked on setting up a simple version of the new game. Yes, it’s ‘Attack Of The Green Blobs On The Player’s Red Block While Moving Along In The Black and Grey Circles‘!

I can see you’re excited! The game is not using the scale I intend to use. I want to use a larger, scrollable play field later on but for now this little arena will do. It is now possible to test the basic game idea and how to figure out to make the game flow as simple and smooth possible.
That’s the power of building a simple version of your new game before adding all the bells and whistles. What if I would have build the game with all the features and graphics included and found out it isn’t fun or difficult to play? Changing a full game is a daunting job, and it would likely be abandoned. This way I can tweak and change small amounts of code to my hearts content and restart on the full game when I’m satisfied.

I wanted to make the player manage two or three energy bars but that’s already changed to one. I also want every action you perform in the game to have a positive and negative effect. Everything in the game is double faced like that, even the title: It describes your situation, but also the position you want to maneuver the aliens into.

More tweaking to follow in the following week, but even in this stage I already have fun with this game.

Intriguing! Also worrying.. that screen shot is not dissimilar to how my eyes looked this morning.

I’ve got a feeling that this is going to be another of those games that makes me want to hurt things.

Hmm… wondered how the TShield was going to be represented. ;-)

    Intriguing.

So what’s the aim of the game then? How will the gameplay work?

ps. whilst playing thrust a few days ago, it made me think of other games that i used to love.. and then it hit me.

someone NEEDS to do a remake of the original wireframe elite but using the thrust/geometry wars glowy line engine.

he he, I’ll explain the game play in another post soon. I’m still tweaking stuff so nothing is set in stone right now. I could explain it now but I might have to rectify that later on.

I’ve never really liked Elite. It takes too long to get anywhere, and the crashing in the docking bays put me off big time :) Adding a glowy line engine won’t make it a better game…

Quick – we need another update… otherwise… we’ll just turn on each other.

    Or something. ;-)

    I wouldn’t want that :)

We’ve been migrating two windows domains, 2 exchange servers, 1 group wise server and 1 novel network to windows 2003 / Exchange 2003 over the weekend. :) So yeah, I was pretty busy. I hope do post something this week real soon…
